What is a "tackhead" banjo and is it suitable for Clawhammer/Old-time?
It's a banjo that has some kind of hide head attached to the rim with tacks.
I think they are appropriate for old time music.
I think from your other thread this will be your first banjo? If so you might want to put in a search on how weather/humidity affects the tension of a skin head banjo. You might be better off with a more modern style with a mylar(plastic) head.
I second what AndyW says. I have a tackhead banjo and find it can be frustrating. It is fun to have, but I would not want it as my primary banjo.
