I've been listening to Vester Jones banjo on Spotify... specifically Cluck Old Hen... he transforms a children's song into something really deep and wonderful. Anyone willing to venture a guess as to what his banjo set up was like? It's got the twang of metal strings but some really deep tones too... ?
Vester was a great banjo picker and singer. Interesting story on Vester, in 1948 he shot and killed his neighbor Glade Anderson after an argument over some goats. After doing some more research on Vester I seen where he played Old Joe Clark in the banjo contest at the 1955 Galax Old Fiddlers Convention.
