I saw that he locked his account a while back... shame. I hope he returns at some point.

I also enjoyed some of Paul's contributions, found him intelligent and informed. I was also fine with ignoring him when I thought he was offbase, or going on and on. And on!
But hey, Paul, come on back one day. Most will be glad to see you and you will enjoy irritating those who are not.

I'm actually a little surprised that people hang around as long as they do, given how a fair number of regulars (?) seem to get their jollies from using ridicule and piling-on to the extent they do.    I don't know whether that was a factor in the decisions of those you noticed, and not that my opinion counts for diddly-squat, but for me it creates a generally unpleasant atmosphere.

I like the off-topic section of this board because there are so many interesting discussions but it is a bit strange to see how little activity there is in the "playing advice" section (Scruggs-style in my case) compared to the off-topic section. There are some subjects that will stir up the same old comments from the same members and result in long discussions but I usually feel lucky if I get a solid answer to a more specific question. Most helpful answers there seem to come from a handful of regulars including Sherry who has the patience of angels especially when answering frequently asked beginners questions. To me, if a member quits that was mostly active in the off-topic section, it may mean a loss of information and entertainment on all things non-banjo. The loss of a member that posts helpful advice in the playing advice section, however, seems much more severe to me.

My advice is worth every penny you pay for it.

That said, I did enjoy Paul's contributions.

For myself, I don't feel I have a lot to contribute in many of the playing or building threads, but I do read them, and comment when and where I can.  I've posted a couple of tabs, and only 1 song.  I don't feel knowledgeable enough to feel that my contributions would be helpful.  I've probably posted way more questions than I have answers.  I have to say though, that it is the off topic and games that keep me coming back daily.  Otherwise I would probably lurk and only check in once a week, or month or so - as I did when I first found the hangout while banjo shopping.
