I have a Goldtone OB250+TP with stock tuners. I'd like to change the buttons on it to an amber color I've seen and really like. Wondering where I'd find some that would fit?

The Gold Tone buttons are different. You have to get ones that fit. Gotohs are really good upgrade tuners, made my banjo sound better.

Confer with Bob Smakula fretted instruments. . I got my ambers for gotohs from them. He knows what fits what.

In designing their tuners, Gold Tone did not follow the historic standards like Gotoh did. I know of no aftermarket knob that will fit Gold tone tuners.

BTW; Elderly buys their amber and other tuner knobs from me, so I can confirm that they will not fit Gold Tone tuners.

Well that sucks. They glue the 5th peg down so to get it off will be a pain and may damage the neck as I did on my OB150, I have some really nice tuners but I'm afraid to swap then out as I love my 250.. :(

Remove the 5th knob and washer
Heat a soldering gun and apply to the body of the tuner and remove it.

Hey No1up! Try Companion Banjo!!! They don't list Gold Tone, but they have a phone number, email, and "OTHER" as a selection on the tuner type.

The gold tone buttons fit the Gotoh
shaft, but they are not drilled deep enough
The trouble then would begetting the D shaped holes deep enough
Not worth it

I'm a little scared of messing up the finish.. does this method really work? It's going to cost me $60 to send my OB150, plus $60 for repair, and $60 for shipping back to fix my last 5th string peg removal. Not too bad, but I REALLY love my OB250+TP. If I could change the tuners on it it would be perfect. I honestly don't see myself owning another banjo without a Tony pass rim and a JLS tone ring.

If you say it's glued down, all the glues let go at 160 F.
Just go slow, many times it'll wiggle loose like a tooth.
I wish it were easier.
What happened to the OB150? they have a shop hour, sounds like a fair price.
My OB250 is getting a new tailpiece this afternoon.

The OB250+TP. Looks sharp and sounds great.

I'm getting close to trying the heating method. If its 160f would that not burn the wood or the finish around the hole?

Go slowly. Using a soldering iron, athen it only expands the 5th string tuner and thus loosens it.
