An off the wall topic, wondering if there are any Back to the Land type pickers in the Greenville, Upstate area of South Carolina? Respectfully, Bassthumper :-)

I'll play whatever I feel like playing, which is why I preferred to call my group a JUG BAND instead of a Bluegrass band or a Folk Group.
Fewer boundaries, real or imagined.

About a thousand miles north of even the NORTHEST part of North Carolina.
But at least you're not entirely alone out there.

I've got kinfolk in Yancey County, NC, and they know some fine pickers.

PM me and I'll give them your contact info, for if and when they have a get-together.

Thanks. My brother Gregory Gregory ( the kid so nice, Mom named him twice) could play the French horn.
So when I saw this big ol' teakettle a a rummage sale, I knew he could tootle THAT, too.
All I had to do was hammer the mouthpiece a bit smaller.
OK, so who else out there is not a slave to the Bluegrass tradition?

Mr. Bassthumper is asking REAL NICE!
Don't make me come over there and yowl under your windows!

Sorry we're too far apart. I live across the closed border, but I understand the notion. My on-again, mostly off-again band (with whomever is able to play), the Limestone City String Band, plays whatever Old-Time stuff we want, and some not so OT. We do have a Bluegrass banjo player (Mary), and team up with BG and clawhammer. I'll play BG songs on guitar, but I use fingerpicks. The last gig we did as a three-piece, we played/sang "Rose of San Antone" - for Texan friend Hal in the audience. The last gig we did as a two-piece, so there was some BG/claw picking. (First photo: Sitting due to my sciatic nerve issue, BG and CH banjo.) Set lists are BG sparse.

I confess, I'm in that jug mood most of the time myself.

My kids call it the "weird" part of youtube.

Dang! I had that album - thanks for the reminding me. Now to see if I can replace it.

A kot of the Lovin' Spoonful's material came from jug bands - Gus cannon's Jug Stompers and the Memphis Jug Band.
