i loved the sound of the aquila reds on my tubaphone until the epidemic of breakage took them out. i was very careful about their gradual acclimation to standard G tuning and finally got them there over a week. i thought i was good to go until i picked up the instrument a week later, way out of tune. i tuned it up again, which required taking up a ridiculous amount of slack - and thats when they started to pop, at the nut. as though they stretch so thin that they reached their limit. Ideas??
I like nylon but i don't like blowing nylgut sets like this.
Quite possibly the nut slots weren't wide enough. I had one break recently, the first string. So I took out a magnifying glass, laid the string in the slot and sure enough the slot was too small for the string which meant the string was getting pinched. Fixed it, no problems since. banjered
