I play this song, but don't have a tab for you. I learned it for the same reason. I'd say that the song is mostly chords and a very basic melody that mostly just goes up and down the pentatonic scale of each chord. If your goal is to be able to play and sing it for the kids, a starting point is the forward-reverse roll over the chord changes, and sing the lyrics. If you play clawhammer, I would just do the basic strum over the chord changes and sing it.
The singing is what the kids care about. They don't really care much about an amazing banjo break. So just play the chords and sing the song. And wear a funny hat. Kids love banjo guys with funny hats.
