I had a face-time chat with my son (age 40, lives in Australia) the other day, and I noticed that he no longer looks like me. He used to, but more and more he takes after his mother, that is, if his mother had to shave every day.

After the call, I went and had a good hard look in the mirror. Turns out I don't look like me any more, either. For one thing, I'm old (how did that happen?), and now I look a little like my mother in her old age, or at least what my mother might have looked like if my mother had ever grown a beard.

At least my wife still looks the same, although she says that's because my eyesight is failing.

I had the creepy experience the other day of seeing my doppelganger. In about 1960 my dad was filmed in a short documentary film bigging up the glories of British medical research. I'd never heard of this, but my brother had and found a copy on Youtube. The young man with the white coat and clipboard seen chatting to the distinguished professor in front of some complex equipment could have been me 30 years ago.

I've found that it's better to not look in the mirror. That face staring back at me couldn't really be mine, could it? Old lady with wrinkles and gray hair? Looks a lot like my mother. I'm just thankful that my health is still good and I'm still able to do pretty much whatever I want.

My grandmother used to say "grow old gracefully" and I really didn't understand what the meant. I do now.

Mirrors I can live with, but photographs are bad. Especially the ones from the DMV, they seem to make it look like I don't have any hair, and that there is a GPS roadmap on my face.

"I can't wait to look in the mirror... I get better looking each day."

Surely it can't be only Mac and I that have that problem?  wink :

When I look in the mirror I see my grandpa. He was the kindest man I have ever met. Handsome, too..

I should be our cat. She doesn't see her reflection. Or I should be a vampire.

Topic like this always reminds me of the line in "Franny & Zoey" about him looking only into his eyes in the mirror while shaving because he might get caught up in admiration for his looks.

were you nekkid when you looked at 'it' and 'it' died?  or... dis you look at a nekkid 'it' whilst fully clothed and the 'it'' died?  These are important questions.... admittedly only to a few of us, but important all the same smiley

Keith Whitley had a problem with mirrors. I just see an older version of myself. Like an vintage car with the same horse power under the hood if you know what I mean..wink wink. 1955 models seem to be a collector's item.

I recently fell in the back yard and busted my nose in 6 places. I had no idea that much blood can gush out of a nose. The hospital told me to take pictures of it, I don't why, so we did.

Seeing the picture, I asked my wife "who is the old guy with a swollen face, a shiner, long gray hair and bushy whiskers?

She smiled and said, "Sweetie, that's you." Reality, is not kind to some of us.

Fully agree with that.  When I look at a photo I look much older than when looking in a mirror.  I try my best to stay out of photos now.

Considering the alternative, getting old is not bad at all!

Well, just don't try to feel too young as you might head for jail. cheeky

I wonder why John Prine never wrote a tune about that subject ? Maybe something like "Your Son Is Your Used To Be".

Aging is such a gradual process it "sneaks"up on you. Your mind sometime tells your body to do things it can no longer do.

Nah.

Just become a member of a certain organisation whose name begins with "L" and Dutto, Scummo, The Mad Monk and all their sleazy mates will ensure that 'youll be right'. Anthing that happens will be just 'hearsay'. wink
