I need to make a nut and finish the slots with with welding torch tip cleaners. I can use my eyeballs but I can't find a chart translating the cleaner size (6-26) to diameter for a more accurate nut slot. Any thoughts?

Ah, thanks. I did find charts but none showed diameter like that one.

Since my string gauges are 10-12-14-22-10 I guess I'm limited to using the

#6 (0.014) for the first 2 and last, the #7 (0.0.18) for the G and the #8 or more likely the #10 (.021 or .024) for the low D

(edit-actually I think I'll stick with a 4 string nut lol. laugh)

I didn’t find the conversion to be terribly accurate, so I measured them with a caliper and jabbed them into a piece of foam for storage.

haha, nice! I ripped the smallest one out of the folding set by accident so I may make one of those. I don't have a digital caliper but should get one. Too late now though, I've already started the slots (actually I'm sure I'm high so there's still room to adjust) and my head should be here any minute...this is just a nut I made out of hard maple so I don't expect perfection.

Don't worry about charts or calculations. For most brands of tip cleaners (whether made in USA or China) the 4 thinnest ones, in sequence, do the job just fine for those string gauges.
