Good dark and early morning from warm(ish) Kingston, Ontario. It's 2C but will gradually cool to -1C throughout the day, with some chance of flurries.
A couple of oils today. The first is of the Charelvoix region. Painting in that area became popular when Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson took to painting there. This painting, by Gilles Bedard (1954 - ), was our first oil purchase. The second, by Ross Huggins (1916 - 1974), came from the first art auction we ever attended. It's a scene of St. Joseph de la Rive near Quebec City. The Mrs. definitely doesn't like it but it was a favourite of a late friend. Huggins trained at Western Technical School, near our home in Toronto. He also worked as an artist at the Montreal firm I worked for right out of university (he was long gone back to T,O, by then).
Quebecois chansonier Gilles Vigneault sang, in his song Mon Pays, "Mon pays, ce n'est pas un pays, c'est l'hiver." ("My country, it's not a country, it's winter.") A lot of Quebec painting reflects this feeling.
Gave a great day!
