First a caveat: My exploration into audio recording and editing is confined to some limited use of the (free) program Audacity.
I had to look up what VST effects were and from what I read this could be one of those "down the rabbit hole" scenarios. I'm thinking that I might ask what are the most essential VST effects to record and produce bluegrass music. That's all I got.....sorry.
And, as I recall, you are a college student. Is is possible that there is a music department at your school and someone there that might be able to help you.
