I haven't had my bassoon out since I got my new banjo over the summer (I hide it from myself so I'm not tempted to sell it). I got it out to check on it, and realized it has a similar look to my banjo. Both are maple, impossible to tune, and will ruin a date, so it makes sense.

I used to play clarinet and tenor sax and don't remember them having to be tuned. Is it because the bassoon has a double reed?
Yeah, bassoons are finicky. F can be really flat and the note right above it, F sharp, is always really sharp. The up side to that, is if you're playing in a bunch of groups and one plays flat and the other plays sharp, you can just roll with it and adjust with your embouchure.
A bassoon banjo duo would be great!
I’m a classically trained Viola player, I played in many sinphonic and chamber orchestra here in Italy, love the sound of classic instruments mixed with folk music...
May be you can turn that bassoon into a tree branch for the eagle to sit on.
Yea I think both could ruin a date. So its best to slowly introduce into a conversation. And don't play dueling banjos.

My voice on a date: So my banjo came with a bottom frosted head, so obviously I was unsure about it at first, but I tell you, it's easier to adjust the bridge and is just overall more comfortable.
