I've been wanting to get a second banjo and love the sound of some gourd banjos. They seem to be an affordable way to add a second banjo and get a cool, old sound.
I'm not very familiar with them and am not sure what I need to know before I get one. Are they hard to take care of? Do they break easy? Do they stay in tune easily? Anything else?
I'm looking at something like the one linked below made by Barry Sholder (I'm in Ga so he's close by). Does anybody know anything about his work? I've heard it's pretty good but don't know this particular banjo.
If you’re shopping around check out Nate Calkins too. I have one of Nate’s mountain banjos and he does solid work. He builds gourds also.
