I recently bought a 1977 Gibson RB800; unfortunately, it arrived with a neck crack under the nut through FedEx. After looking at everything and considering, I'm not going to worry with getting the neck fixed. I am going to sell the gold-plated parts and will also part with the multi-ply rim and the resonator if someone wants them. It's a tube and plate configuration. I would even throw in the cracked neck for "free"...
So the question is- how much are parts like this worth? There is "Gibson" stamped on the tailpiece and armrest, the tuners are highly engraved as are the tone ring and tension hoop. I believe that the tone ring is plated brass because you can see the greenish patina coming through the gold plating on the inside; however, it is very lightweight compared to standard tone rings because it is much thinner and may have actually been stamped out and then plated.
I would love to sell it all off as a lot if someone has a project where they could use these parts and would be more than reasonable on the price.
Any help here?
