Devon Wells did a MARVELOUS job on "Funeral March of a Marionette.

In honor of which, I have produced an image of MY favorite childhood marionette, modified to appear to be deceased.

Here's the music.

I TRIED to upload the image, but my computer says there's a SECURITY problem.

So, once THAT's done, I will upload the image.

I admire Mr. Doody's shirt, but what are those armbands he's wearing?

Devon is from our fine pool of local talent. Howdy Doody is also Oky Diddly

Sleeve garters.

No longer a common fashion item for men NOT involved in Barbershop Harmony.

Once quite common among workmen in many occupations.

they were used back in the old days for ready made shirts ,, most had extra long sleeves and the garters allowed you to wear them with the sleeves adjusted to fit you so the right amount of cuff showed out from under you jacket and kept you from getting them dirty too.

I keep telling people:
Banjo HangOut is a LOT cheaper than college, and the information acquired is FAR more interesting.

Banjo Hangout is cheap until your BHO buddies persuade you to buy that pre-war Gibson with a second mortgage on your house.

CBC had the 'Canadian Howdy Doody show' when I was very young. I don't know how the U.S. version appeared. We had Timber Tom, Clarabelle the clown, Dilly Dally, Hista the snake, and probably a few others. They were all wooden marionettes. I'm amazed I can remember so many names from 1955 because today I have trouble remembering where I left my steaming hot cup of coffee.

Found a picture of Timber Tom and his crew:

Also stumbled across the stuff of NIGHTMARES!

EXPLETIVE DELETED, what an image!

That was my first dose of TV culture. I hope that explains a few things.
