Hello! See attached the tag of a Rettburg & Lange NY made ORPHEUM No. 3 Tenor Banjo. Assuming this is the serial number, it seems to be higher than any numbers I have seen listed in forums here, such as this string:
The number is "724833"
Does anyone know what YEAR of manufacture this would be for an Orpheum No. 3 New York made? Or is this the patent number and serial number is elsewhere?
See attached pic.

Yes, the number stamped on the rim is the tone ring patent number. The serial number should be stamped on the dowel stick like the attached example.
THANK YOU! Okay I will see if I can find it on the dowel!
Bummer. We are not seeing any numbers on the dowel rod, perhaps the dowel was replaced over the years at some point?
For future reference, when taking pictures you shoul always take the banjo out of the case and make sure you have very good lighting. Pictures of the full gfront and back and closeups of detailes are important.
From the few photos you've provide, it looks like the fret spacing is for a 22 fret plectrum banjo, not the smaller tenor, but without seeing the entire front, it's hard to tell for sure.
Thanks, the banjo is not with me, it is at the home of the owner in another state. So I can only rely on pics he sent me and ask for more to be sent.
I'd request as many pictures as possible, then post them here to get the best information.
