Howdy, I’m planning on putting a design on my banjo head that won’t take up the entire head. Most likely it will take up about 60% or less. However, I am unaware if there is a certain type of paint that is best to use on a banjo head that will not fall off or effect the sound. Anyone got recommendations?

I have three banjos with painted heads. My girlfriend/music partner painted them with acrylic artist paint. (See my avatar.)
In my opinion, it doesn't affect the tone. However, two of the banjos are pre-WW II Gibsons; one a flat top one an arch top. One would have to work hard at degrading the tone once the banjo is set up properly.
The painted heads have been on the banjos for over 15 years.
I have a very light right hand contact on the head. I have never worn the frosting off the head and I played professionally (full time) for over six years. On the arch top banjo I have replaced the frets six times, so I play a lot.
