Had a great day out today with my son, wandered about over 200 acres of beautiful countryside whilst I taught him something I’d learned from my uncle when I was about my boy’s age.

sometimes a ferret will kill a rabbit underground so there may be a requirement to excavate.

Rabbit hunting with a ferret?? No.. ?No... ?Yes! Not very sporty for the rabbit. Hey gives a whole new meaning.. going down the rabbit hole. I image the first timer might get surprised by the sounds. I remember the first time I heard a raccoon squawl it scared the beejeebus out of me.

With the numbers of rabbits we have in some areas, it's not necessarily meant to be sporting, that said,, today was a recreational trip.

I beg your parsnips! ..partridge!...parson!....PARDON! Yeah THAT's what I'm begging.

You did not MENTION a ferret, and IF that's a ferret peeking out of the box, how would a person who has never put a ferret IN a box be expected to KNOW that?

My question is not the LEAST BIT daft.

You want to see DAFT, book a flight to Mitchell Field, and rent a car, and stop by the house to see my HAT collection.

There's nothing better than time with your kid(s), whether they be young or grown. Enjoy him while he's home for before long, he'll be grown and gone on to live his own life. The time you're spending with him now, he'll remember as he grows older and it should bring you even closer than you are now.

I hear from my son every Sunday. He's a very caring type man. He checks on his old mom to be sure she's still kicking. It means a lot when you know your kids care.

Wow! that is so cool! That's a lucky boy! As a kid I read a lot about falconry & was intrigued with trapping & fishing. When I learned you could use ferrets to hunt rabbits it was something you only read about.

Those photos of that valley & area are awesome! Looks like where time began. A beautiful day outside. We walked down to the river today & looked for chanterelles amongst some big trees.

We should start a thread where people post pictures with distinctive shots of their locality.

I could look at ones of the Yorkshire Dales all day, the guys that built that wall are smiling now I bet!

It’s a lovely place to be, with lots of history. We spent some time sat on a Bronze Age burial mound and there re Iron Age hut circles and a Roman camp very close by too.

Bob, I know of a couple of guys around my area who fly hawks over ferrets, they use the ferts to bolt the rabbits and either fly the hawk from the glove or from a nearby tree.  I've never done it myself but it looks about as 'old school' as you can get.
