Hi everyone! I heard a fab Banjo Tune played by Adam Cloer called "The Old North State". I cannot find the music anywhere. Can anyone help me please?

Many thanks

Here's a video of Adam Cloer playing the tune that may help someone with a tab.

Beautiful tune. I'll start transcribing it, and depending on how many interruptions I get from the kids, will send over when I'm done.

@rwsansom. I would really appreciate the tab for this too.  It's a pretty tune.

Fatfingers , hobogal - I posted tabs here on my profile: banjohangout.org/tab/browse.as...l&v=24533

Note, I played with the arrangement a little, first by removing the 12 seconds Adam played between 1:11 and 1:24 and jumping right to that cool ascending line at the 1:25 mark (I like how this jump drives the tune a bit more), and then I added some of my own tasty bits that my ear was gravitating to.

Enjoy!

Hi Bobby - Thank you so much for your skill and time in doing this! The chances of me being able to do that was zero so I'm hugely impressed. There's something about the song that compels me to learn it. love the tempo too! FatFingers (Richard)

Fatfingers - I'm sure you could do it :-) Transcribing by ear, as with anything, takes practice, and is hugely helpful in progressing your ear and playing ability. Youtube is great in that it allows us to slow the videos down in order to pick out the notes easier, and if we can see what the player is doing with their left and right hands, it's even better. I also use Audacity, a free music software that allows me to slow down the music, change the pitch, and put small segments on repeat, (among other editing capabilities), which allows me to play along with a part over and over, and slowly increase the speed until I have it down.

You can do it, I have faith in you :-)

Fatfingers hobogal - I fell down a rabbit hole during my lunch break today and played with the arrangement some more, presenting it in a classical, AABACA Rondo song form. See if you like it. It's posted to the above tab link to my profile.

Anyone know if Adam Cloer is on BHO? I hope he doesn't mind my arrangement of his song. (I also am assuming it is his song, and not a cover. I did a (quick) search for other songs titled "The Old North State", and other than North Carolina's state song, which is definitely different, came up with nothing.

Hi! I have done little more research. Apparently:

- the song was the subject of a previous discussion now archived:

"3 May 2020 - I came across this video of a banjo player called Adam Cloer playing a nice tune called The Old North State. ... 265 posts since 4/27/2020 ... Waltz also reminded me of another waltz: Lonesome Moonlight Waltz (Monroe)."

- I think Adam Cloer plays for a band called The Lonesome Four

- I wrote to the Cornish Banjo Company twice trying to contact Adam and also trying to buy a banjo. I had no response to either. i think the company is dormant.

Bobby - I cannot seem to get the amended TAB you worked on - can you help further?

Thanks

Richard

Hi Carrie - it's not strictly a BHO issue, but I'm wondering if you can help please? I'm struggling with TEF View (free). I've downloaded the application (for MAC). When I open it I get an Aria (which I think is a demo) but cannot navigate to the main menu or upload a tune i.e Bobby's TAB of The Old North State (or any TAB for that matter).

Can you help please? No worries if it's going to take a long time.

Many thanks either way!

Richard

Fatfingers Hi Richard - I had an older version of TefView and needed to download the latest to view Bobby's tab. I mistakenly downloaded the 'TablEdit' demo (which I don't need as I only need the viewer - and I couldn't open the tab) but it was fine when I downloaded the 'TEFView' - I'm using windows.  I hope you get it resolved.
