I have looked all over the Internet for a banjo like this one. But I can find similar ones but not ones that have Martin regimen top like mine. I am thinking it might be a Janice Martin ? I really don’t know. And I cannot find any definitive answersDoes anyone have any idea what year or what kind of banjo this is? And how much they costI’m ?

It’s probably a Jimmy Martin. could be a Dean Martin. Does it smell like booze and smart off and want to get vulgar at times, it’s Jimmy and not Dean. Just boozy smell, might be a Dean. If it wants to fight and run after umpires, it could be a Billy Martin.

How are we supposed to know without seeing it?

And welcome to the Hangout.

Vega banjos from the seventies have a C. F. Martin & Co. logo on the back of the peghead. I used to have one. But I have never seen Martin on the front of the peghead. Like others have mentioned, we need pictures.

Is there a full moon tonight? This seems to be the "let's post vague posts and hope someone can read my mind" day.

I played a really spectacular gold plated Martin at No.Tom in London a few years ago, can't remember for the life of me of if it said Martin on the front or back though...

But FIRST.... show me pictures of the banjo.

Front and back of peghead, full front, full back, inside body, indisde necj joint, tailpiece.

Hey, Dora!

Is getting people to post pics  as hard as pulling teeth?

Let's give the poster the benefit of the doubt. From his words, it looks like he thought he included pictures. This is not the most intuitive system for posting pictures I have seen, particularly if you've never used it before. I still always use "Preview" to make sure they are there.

If I recall, C.F. Martin did make a brief foray into the hot tenor banjo market of the teens and twenties without much success.

Martin did make tenor banjos from 1923 to 1926. They built 96 of them. Although they are rarely seen, these banjos do not bring high prices.
They would have had the Martin brand stamped into the wood somewhere on the instrument. Martin instruments from this period did not have decals or silkscreened logos.
I would be surprised if the OP's banjo is a Martin from this period.
I believe that some of the Martin made Vega banjos from the 1970's did have a Martin decal.  If the banjo in question is indeed a C.F. Martin product, it is much more likely that it is from this period.

The Martin decal on early 1970s Vegas would be on the BACK of the peghead. (Vega on the front.) Plus the yellow tape inside the rim would also mention Martin, and the serial # would begin with "M". I have a nice Vega/Martin "Wonder" model like this.

Can you post a picture of yours, Dick? It might be helpful to the original poster.

And I don't blame them one bit.  They came here for help, and got smart-aleck comments instead.
