I bought this Gibson Clone RB4 Banjo off Ebay a few years ago, and the seller claimed he was selling the banjo for a friend, and didn't have much information on it.
It is a beautifully made, engraved banjo, with a couple of unique inlays on it, and I was wondering if anyone out there in Banjo land knows who built the banjo, and any history on the banjo.
The inlay pattern is called a "Florentine Special" and it looks like a social security number stamped in the rim. I don't know if you could find anything by searching that number. It is a beautiful banjo......but the resonator looks to be maple and not walnut, like a style 4 would be. Good luck!
It is very nice Don. That was back when we thought SSN was a great identifier and would hide it on stuff in case of theft. Let’s hope for their sake, they’ve passed on since their SSN is now public record.
