I think some of my favorite music is on YouTube of Earl, Randy and Joan sitting in her home banjo and guitar picking and Joan singing Love is Just a Four letter word...simple but great in every way...three extremely talented artists.

One of my favorites to pick. Also enjoy Earl"s version on his Nashville's Rock album.

There is a longer version of it too with interesting conversation showing the humanity and interesting qualities of that trip the Scruggs’ embarked on including the session at Joan’s home.

If I remember I had an 8-track tape titled, "Earl Scruggs, Family and Friends," that had this recording event on it. Also some with Doc and Merle Watson.

Wow, watching this makes me wonder whether Randy ever noticed the way Joan looked at him while he played that solo... smiley

I will bet my rusty old B string against any Bluegrass CD in your collection, that the average fellow will ALWAYS notice being looked at, by any woman, in any situation.

That entire channel is awesome and worth watching all of it. David Hoffman is the producer, he has hundreds of amazing high quality documentary style videos on his page, and not just bluegrass related. Anyone who is interested in American history should subscribe.

But if it is a young Joan Baez looking at you like that and you notice, wouldn't you inevitably flub your solo?

I might, but Randy was really GOOD at what he did.

That was wonderful music. I thought in some situations on that video Earl's playing did not fit into some pop/rock genres that good - it seemed kind of forced. but with Baez it was great. And I really enjoyed his playing with Bob Dylan and was surprised how well Dylan sang the bluegrass. A very enjoyable film.
