The player doesn't look like he's having fun, and no wonder when he's trying to play a banjo with no strings or bridge.

What about it? It was a promotional novelty for Vega. It is labeled as a Whyte Laydie but does not contain the scalloped truss and wire.

Several manufacturers made similar gimmicks. Tom Carey took the one Lyon and Healy (Washburn) made on tour of the vaudeville circuit.

There was also a Bacon Silver Bell made-- I guess it was a thing at the time to have "the worlds largest ___ banjo."
