Hi all--I'd posted a while back about getting recommendations for a good starter banjo. At the time, I was eyeing the composite Gold Tones and maybe the RK-R20. Then, I came across a BG-150F in the classifieds, and after some excellent interactions with Jim Britton, I'm now the proud owner of my first banjo!

I'm beyond pleased, and it seems clear that this banjo is going to keep me busy for a very long time before I'll need anything better. The setup seems excellent (thanks again, Jim!), and though I may play around with a new bridge and some strings at some point, for now, I'm quite content looking around online at some banjo instructional videos to get me started.

The only question I have currently is, since holding a banjo is a very different experience than holding a guitar, does anyone have any good strap recommendations? I've seen some other posts on here about the difficulty of finding a strap that fits this particular banjo, so any tips are welcome. (And, of course, any other newbie banjo advice you might have.)

Most importantly, thanks to you all for posting so much helpful info on this forum. It really helped me zero in on this banjo!

Oh, and here she is:

Most will recommend a cradle strap for an 8 lb banjo. If the problem is the distance between the hooks and the pot, I hope that some recommendations will overcome that problem.
Another option to consider (if you can't find a cradle strap that will work) would be a Neotech strap. I have one and it would work well on a mid-weight resonator banjo. I would NOT consider the straps that have metal or plastic "hooks" on the ends.

I have a Huber strap on my RB-3 Gibson Wreath, I have to say for such a narrow strap ( 1 1/4" ) it sure is comfortable, fits nice and easy in the case, no metal hooks or shoestrings to fumble with.

Congratulations on your first banjo!  Hope you brings you many years of enjoyment.

As for straps, I like the leather straps that connect using Chicago screws. The guys at Rusty Knuckles make great straps in 2", or for more support, 3' widths.
