Badger-ine? Pony badjo? C-scale Bad-joke? Anyway...

For sale locally at 250, listed as a Vaga banjo, 1940-45. I was excited until I realized the neck is a garage jobber conversion. I think it’s a style N tenor? Is that right?

Vega style N had 26 tension bracket shoes.

Most likely a mandolin banjo that was re-necked.
Can't tell much from the pictures, but I would call the maker unknown.

Ah the plot thickens... I’ll have to ask why the seller identifies it as a Vega. Not much comes up when I search for 20 hook pots. Banjolin conversation seems like a good guess, kudos!

Vega style K mandolin banjos had 20 hooks.
But those pictures aren't clear enough to be able to tell who made the rim of the banjo in question.

The pictures are bad, but I'm thinking that the neck attachment hardware looks like Oscar Schmidt.

Yeah I texted the seller this morning and it apparently has no markings. He was guessing it was a Vega based on a google search. Looks to be a 5th string just added on to a tenor neck though...

I'd agree with the 5th string added to a tenor neck.

Most Chicago made banjos had 20 brackets. What is the diameter of the rim?

At second look, I think short necked tenor with added 5th tuner is the better guess. It looks kind of small to me, but that could be an optical illusion.
