Good morning BHO Citizens.

I'm wondering whether anyone knows about a fiddle/banjo recording that featured Charlie Acuff and John Hartford, made in Norris Tennessee at the Museum of Appalachia in the early 1990s.

The recording, perhaps a tape cassette, was mentioned in:

Tom Gocze. "John Hartford: 'Like Light Coming Out of the Radio." Banjo Newsletter. January 1993. banjonews.com/1993-01/john_har...view.html

I'm not finding that recording online. I'd appreciate any help, suggestions, etc. Take care, stay safe and healthy, Lew

Lew, it appears that the cassette is listed on the Tennessee Arts Commission Folklife page, but the link is inactive.

I know someone who used to play in the house band at the Museum of Appalachia. It's a long shot but she may have the cassette or know a source.

Thanks, David. I saw that dead link, and lost all hope - I should have known with your OTM connections you'd come through with a lead. Thanks.

Lew,

Maybe a stupid question but have you contacted the Museum owners? They may still have tapes or discs in their gift shop.

Lew, my friend does not have the recording, but she said she will contact another member of the band they had. They played often at the museum and her friend was a big fan of Charlie Scuff (as were many others). It may be a long shot. Keep looking.

Thanks, David. This is "Old Time Music Archeology," of a sort. Take care, Lew

Check with the John Hartford website, run by his daughter. They have lots of books, sheet music and CDs and videos from John's career.

That's a good idea, too. Thanks Dick.

Lew,

It was obviously too early in the day for me when I asked if you had checked with the Museum.

Now that it's coming up to midnight here I am awake. I bought a copy of the tape on one of my visits and not trusting cassette tapes to last long I digitised it and now have it on disc. I just located it, the notes by Museum owner John Rice Erwin are very brief.
How can I be of help?

Jimmy, Just got your email and replied. Many thanks for your BHO note, which I did not see until your email alerted me about your posting. Take care, Lew
