I wanted to try the Brad Kolodner version of this tune. First recording of this was right back at the start of recording technologies in around 1927. So I guess it must be older.
Perhaps I need a gourd or tackhead, along with a lot of practise, if I want to play like Brad.
The tuning is relative Double C, but down a whole tone at B flat. Mr K plays it down in double G. I tried tuning that low, it nearly worked too, but the floppiness just gave a few bum notes.
"The Wandering Boy" is a popular song copyrighted in 1850. You can download a scan from the Library of Congress site for free. It might be interesting to see if the melody is the same.
I'll have a look!
Thanks for the comments.
