Was checking out Jim Britton’s ad for Ronnie Reno’s F-5 with the link to Andy Leftwich’s demo of same and let it run into this YouTube video. I love seeing banjo pickers (Magnus Wiik in this case) take the 5-string into other genres when it works - and this certainly does. Enjoy!

So did Gibson change the scale so as not to run the frets all the way to the top of the fingerboard on their recent F5's ? To me , it just doesn't represent the original F5 even though those frets were rarely if never used .
Really enjoyed the sound of the Burlile banjo played in the associated post --- it seems to have all of the right stuff !

What you're seeing is not an F-5 reissue, those were, more or less, faithful copies of the Loar era.

No, to me it seems most likely an A-50, because of the lack of a 'cutaway', there is less room for the player to reach high notes. And it has no fretboard extension either.

Reno's F-5 is a standard model with a standard Gibson 13 7/8" scale. The fingerboard extension has been "scooped." This is often done on mandolins.
