Looking for a tab of how Pete plays this classical piece. Ive read online it is in his instructional book but i cant seem to find it in my 2nd edition. Ive also heard its in a book called "Goofing off suite" but its not for sale anywhere...

Anybody have it/able to point me in the right direction.

Ive found quite a few other tabbed versions of this tune online but Pete's composition sounds nicer to me, so id like to try emulate that.

Thanks.

I'm not sure about this and I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. I think that on some of those early recordings and in the tab for those recording, Pete was playing banjo in a key other than G. If that's true, it might account for the difference you are hearing.

Yeah i think its in A. Though in regards to the sound difference i mentioned, it was more that the other versions i hear are quite elaborate whereas i like Seeger's simplicity in his version.

There are 4 or 5 different versions in the tab archives. Maybe one of them might help you.

I think the tuning I was referring to was C tuning (DBGCg).

My recollection is that Pete Seeger and many others used this as their default tuning.

Of course, I could be wrong about that.

I did go over those and wasn't quite as into them as Seeger's take, but i will use one of them for a basis if i cant find a Seeger tab. Thanks.

Ah yeah you are correct he would mostly play in drop C though he commonly played open G too, among other tunings. I know he is playing one of those two, the dropped 4th string wont make too much of a difference in a single-string piece like this one i think.

The piece is in G and the banjo is tuned in G tuning, gDGBD.

There is a tab in Pete Seeger's book "The Goofing-off Suite". I will try to scan the tab from it.

Thanks, Jan, I would appreciate the TEF if you care to put in in the library.

Dave, that is not a video file, it is a PDF (document).

Could be, I managed to find a version searching on Youtube, but these links all come up as Video Unavailable. Weird. Tried in 2 different browsers.
