Hope everyone's doing okay in the era of COVID-19.
I've been looking for a minstrel frettless banjo for a while. I live in the UK and there are no shops around to try these out. I have watched quite a few YouTube videos in the past few weeks. So far I really like (Terry) Bell banjos and (Eric) Prust banjos. They seem to have the raw sound I'm looking for. I'm not looking for a fancy banjo, just a simple bare bones tack-head.
From what I understand unfortunately Eric doesn't ship overseas any more and I've read mixed things about Terry. So I'm really confused.
Anyone here know anyone apart from these two who makes good minstrel bajos? Or should I just contact Terry/Eric and see what happens?
Thanks in advance!
Bob Thornburg makes grain measure tackheads and Jeff Menzies makes tackheads, though both make great gourd banjos too. Pete Ross also...
Thanks for your reply Mark.
From my understanding Bob Thornburg does not make banjos any more (according to his Sierra website). Menzies don't seem to have a website from which I can order.
I've had a look at Pete Ross's website, and his banjos look great, but quite a bit "posh"/upmarket for my liking. I certainly am not prepared to spend $1800 on a tackhead and won't care much for a flamed maple neck and body
Elderly.com has several of Jeff Menzies for sale; not sure if they ship international though.
If you have Facebook he's very responsive on Facebook Messenger. He has used this email in the past: firstname.lastname@example.org
Another option might be a DIY kit from Carver banjos, he says he ships internationally on his site: carverbanjos.com/ he seems to be a good guy and his kits are fun go put together(sound good too).
Found this guy on an internet search as well https://www.ballardbanjers.com/about.html
