From the BBC Global News podcast this morning. (They were reporting on protests against mask-wearing in North Carolina.)

I want to avoid political discussion at all costs, but I *love* how the guy at the end of the clip considers his banjo to be absolutely essential.

Not wearing a mask may harm other people more than the person who refuses to wear one.

Banjos may be appreciated less by those who have to listen to them than they are by certain players.

At least they are consistent. smiley

Lets make it MANDATORY that EVERYONE must have a banjo while in public spaces where social distancing is difficult.

Older people and those with underlying health conditions should have long neck Seeger style, while those in good health and without symptoms may be permitted to carry as little as a banjo ukulele. Either way, we're all in this together.

And of course, as Mike Gregory always reminds us:

EVERYBODY SING !!!

i live in north carolina and i don't know why some in the state are raising hell about wearing a mask. its just common sense,,not infringing on you liberties. there are still some that can't grasp this thing is FOR REAL. for me personally ,, being over 60 and having COPD ,,and diabetes,, i wear one anytime i am out in public. i don't go out much just for this reason. i know i will most likely die from a respiratory illness ,, but i ain't gonna rush it along.

The great thing about a banjo is that even a complete musical idiot like myself can make something that sounds like music. It's accessible, approachable, for the Average Joe/Jane, as the kids say today.

You can even learn to sing harmony. If the melody is on one string, harmony is on the strings next to it. Open G is genius.

A banjo player on every street corner and in front of every business – now we are talking serious social distancing! banjered

I can only ask the maskless morons who claim their rights are being usurped if they also consider it against their freedom to be required to go to school, get a driver's license, drive on the righthand side of the road, pay for sewage treatment and clean water, etc.

These people are helping to spread a deadly disease, and should be tried for attempted assault and perhaps even manslaughter for their selfishness, and if convicted, their banjos should be confiscated and donated to those who can play one responsibly.

Have you access to a MARKER?

Do you know how to draw a circle with a line coming out of one side of it?

Now, grab your federally mandated banjos, and EVERYBODY SING!

Oh, I come from out my home place, with my banjo in my hand

And I'm masked against the virus, which is spreading 'cross the land!

Oh, Susannah, Oh, don't you cough on me!

Maintain your social distance, with your banjo on your knee!

My wife is working from home these days, on zoom calls all day long, so there's like 10 hours a day where I can't play the banjo.

Personally I don't care for banjo players that holler.

Unless they're singing tenor...

Ignorance abounds. And people fitting this description can easily be controlled. Facts and obtaining accurate information *** combats this problem.

Some banjoists don't want to make a choice between their banjo(s) and their spouse.

*** I do not consider national newcasts reliable sources of information. I am referring to just about all of the TV news. News services like Reuters have reporters in the field gathering news and facts. Reuters lets the viewers form their own opinions.

I often end up singing harmony even when I didn't want to. indecision

If you play Foggy Mountain Breakdown, and if they've seen the Bank Robbery scene from Bonnie & Clyde, they'll think the cops are after them, just like in the movie.

(Until I saw this clip on Youtube, I didn't know "Barrow" was a GERMAN name!)cheeky

Ha, reminds me of my younger days when a lot of people thought I looked like CW Moss from the movie.

Well, I don't know what happened in my reply but I can't fix it. It's including my reply in your post I quoted.

Tried logging out and everything.

BH seems to be inundated at the moment with political threads disclaiming how political they are. Funny, there is another thread going where people are shrieking that banjos are going to be dubbed a symbol of oppressive stereotyping and ripped from their hands.
