I believe that Chris Thile is one of only a handful of true musical geniuses who has been spawned by the Bluegrass genre. One Saturday night at the IBMA fan fest in Louisville, I followed Chris around for several hours as he went from jam session to jam session. I was astounded by his musicianship. Anyone who has played in jam sessions knows that the banter between songs can be as rewarding as the music. I'm pretty sure that Chris didn't get that MacArthur foundation award for his wit and humor.
