Hi Eric,

the spammer was back just now. I noticed he managed to make 83 (near identical) posts in ~20 mins.

I wonder, is it possible to institute a limit on the number of unique posts a user can make, say 3 or 4 separate posts in under a minute disables their account. May help slow them down? Just a thought.

We've been inundated with spammers making multiple posts. Hopefully Eric can limit the number of posts by a new member and maybe he can take care of some of this nonsense. I hope so.

Chris:  it is not necessary to report each and every post a spammer makes.   Report one and that will lock his account and no others can be posted.

But even when you report the latest post there are usually ten to thirty posts left. I think it is a good idea to restrict the number of posts per hour or so, perhaps for members with less than 1000 posts. (I think this is my third post withing five minutes). Those spammers seems to be robots and when they start there are always at least 1 - 5 posts per minutes or more until someone reports them. Then they create a new account and come back after a few hours.

I don't know why we are suddenly being inundated with spammers, but Eric is on the problem and hopefully will get it fixed quickly. Until then, we'll be watching closely (but remember, we do have another life besides this one and sometimes we can't be as quick as you'd like).

For context for those wondering, every US-based forum and social media site is currently experiencing higher than normal levels of bot/spam activity. This is in conjunction with a large scale DDOS attack on our wireless communication networks.

For BHO, A captcha on every submission would solve the issue, although it would inconvenience all the normal posters. It's not a great solution but it generally works.

I hope we don't have to go to that because it might stop a lot of people from posting and asking/answering questions.  Hope Eric can find a better way.

Re Capacha possibly stopping postings:

one could say stopping to lock the front door on the way out to run errands, or the car doors after parking at the shopping center, are inconvenient. Still we most often find the time and energy to do both and still get our errands done.
