I was sad to learn there are only five banjo builders in the world. On the positive side, I must know almost all of them.  But the kid was cute as heck, and I like the guy's playing.

I hope your post gets this fellow a shot at anybody’s business who goes looking for an open back banjo. He’ll sure get mine some day.
Thanks for posting!

Actually, what he said was that there were about five people in the world that make banjos the way that he does.  I don't know what that way is, or if it's true.  Just adding clarification.

Good video... thanks.  I'm relatively ignorant re. things banjo.... at the 3:23 mark I see a "solid" bridge.  Is this viable, or a work-in-progress?

True, but no two makers build the same way.  That's what was cool about the Banjo Builders Series, seeing the ingenuity and different processes.  But a minor point, I agree.

That is a beautifully produced video, his banjos look good, and I like his playing. All banjo makers/players should be so lucky as to have something like this made about them.

The featured builder - tombones - Tom Larsen - is a friend of mine - he came to interview me when he was starting out on the building journey. We have a few things in common as a builders but he has a great artistic ability which I envy, and makes really unique-looking banjos.

With that info, I found his web site. Nice gallery.  I like how each model has a long sound file.  Having seen this, his comment about five builders may be a reference to purely custom builders who do not have standard "models," which is artistically cool.  Not being able to standardized or make "batches" of necks/rims at a time though must pose some serious cost/volume challenges though.  Hope he weighs in here to discuss.  Thanks for letting us know who he is.
