hello folks,

I'm a clawhammer player but was gifted this banjo:

youtu.be/lmhW-0Vx_Jg

Here im playing it: youtu.be/N03es4kiqkQ

I was wondering what you more knowledge folks might think its value is. I'm thinking about selling it to get a banjo more desirable to my tastes.

Why don't you just call Rob Bish and ask him directly? www.bishlinebanjos.com

I don't know what it's worth, but I love the look of the wood. Makes a beautiful banjo.

Sounds great played clawhammer. You could consider slightly heavier strings, may give a more solid clawhammer sound.

I’ll throw a number (or range) out there based on my experience watching the classifieds for the last 10 years or so. Just my opinion though so take it for whatever it is worth.
Assuming the banjo is in good condition without a lot of wear, I think you could sell it in the range of $2200-$2500. There was one that sold on the hangout a few years ago and if I remember right it was in that range and sold within a couple weeks. Of course you might get a bit more if you held out for the right person to come along since Rob’s only built a few of the zebra wood banjos. His customs used to start at $3k. Last I talked to him they were at $3300, but may have gone up since then. I don’t think the zebra wood is more than a $1k upgrade, so the banjo likely cost in the neighborhood of $4k new.
