I would like to bump this thread:
since I`m facing the same problem the OP had, and looking for more tips.
Thank you all and stay safe!
Start a thread of your own, here's why: on archived threads it says this: Please note this is an archived topic, so it is locked and unable to be replied to. You may, however, start a new topic and refer to this topic with a link:
While the link is nice to have, most people don't bother to click on links so if you ask your question(s) about your problem, you'll probably get more answers.
I didn't read all of the answers on that archived thread. So I'll probably state some tips already given. Begginers tend to have heavy hands but the strings can be played softly and sound just fine. When you strum, striking finger at the bottom, you'll want your thumb to sort of pull your hand up, or strum and faintly brush your thumb upward. Too much force can fling your string out of the bridge. There are other techniques I've read. Some will agree some won't, it's up to you. Also a loose hand is fine. A good way to train your thumb would be to do a basic strum over and over while, watching t.v. or something similar. That's all I can think of for now, for a better way of understanding lookup banjolemonade on YouTube. She's a fantastic teacher.
