I hang my 1924 Vega open-back on the wall. I use it often and don't have a strap because

  1. my small children would tug on the strap, bringing it crashing down on them
  2. aesthetically, on the wall it looks great without a strap

I'd like to have a strap for occasional use. Does anyone have a recommendation for a removable strap?

Are there straps with hooks that can be quickly attached to the hooks on the pot?

Thanks,

Matt

Goodtime makes the type of strap you describe. Now I'm not sure if they have this strap in leather, which I find more comfortable around the neck. But you could modify a leather strap to hold the hooks if all else fails. Screw the ends together to hold the hooks in place, or something more sensible.

Hello, Motomatto,

You might look into the banjo straps offered by Neotech ... (nontraditional/mostly non-leather) straps attached to the hooks using side-release (squeeze) buckles. Earlier BHO threads have contemplated the weight-bearing capacity of such straps, but since the buckles come in various sizes (see camping/hiking suppliers), webbing and buckles could be chosen according to your sense of weight requirements if you do not trust Neotech.  Web site is www.neotechstraps.com.  With strap detached, there remain two 6--8-inch webbing loops attached to hooks (near neck heel and tailpiece). Then in addition, of course, there was Dad's teaching that there were some things that kids simply did NOT touch, not matter what!

I have a Neotech "Super Banjo Strap" on an [heavy] Ome flathead with resonator, and it seems sufficiently strong and is comfortable.  As an old cowboy and outfitter, I would prefer saddle-carved leather, but that project isn't complete just yet!  Likely available from shops such as Elderly, etc., as well as Neotech.

Look for a camera strap with plastic clips. It’s quick to attach and detach and the clips wont scar the banjo.

I'd second the Neotech straps. When you unclip the strap, you could tuck the short fabric straps that remain connected to the banjo back into the pot and shouldn't be too visually distracting. Personally, I'd stay way from the metal or plastic clips that hook directly onto the j-hooks.

I have two Neotech Straps and like them.
My new favourite strap is:
banjoteacher.com/banjo-supplie...trap.html
It is a leather strap with button post that makes removal and reattachment very easy. On top of that it is comfortable, strong and good looking. (No affiliation to the seller)

Thanks to everyone for their great suggestions! The Neostrap looks good, and the leather button one really caught my eye.

Unfortunately, the store (Banjoteacher.com) no longer sells the leather button, and I couldn't find any information on the maker.

Do you know who makes these, or where I could find one?

Thanks again!

Matt
