Hey banjo players! I hope you'll join me this coming Saturday, May 2nd at Noon Mountain Time (2 p.m. Eastern Time, 11 a.m. Pacific) for "Understanding Melodic Style Bluegrass Banjo" on my personal Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BillEvansBanjo).
Bill Keith, Bobby Thompson and other players began to develop techniques in the early 1960’s that enabled bluegrass banjo players to play scales but still hit a different string with each successive note played on the banjo. Melodic style is a powerful addition to your bluegrass banjo playing and enables you to play everything from fiddle tunes to J. S. Bach, not to mention a world of licks that you can add to spice up a Scruggs-style solo.
Designed for all levels of players, we'll start from scratch by discussing about how melodic style works but we'll work up to some advanced up the neck exercises for more experienced players too. We'll play scales in a few different keys and along the way, play some great tunes, from "Devil's Dream" and "Big Sciota" to "Squirrel Hunters" in A without a capo. There are 9 tabs that we'll be looking at during this session and my good friends at Peghead Nation have made these available for you to download now. Head to https://pegheadnation.com/news-reviews/events/join-bill-evans-facebook-live-april-11-2/
This workshop is free for everybody but your donations are very much appreciated. 25% of all donations will be passed along to the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, Berkeley, CA. You can contribute to the cause via PayPal or a credit card donation by linking to https://www.billevansbanjo.com/donate.php. If you can't catch this workshop live on Saturday, come back to my Facebook page to view at any time. Thanks for joining me.

We're just about two hours away from today's (Saturday, May 2nd) bluegrass banjo workshop "Understanding Melodic Style Banjo," right here on this Facebook page at noon Mountain Time. This workshop is designed for all levels of players as we'll discuss the philosophy *and* technique behind melodic style banjo and how you can use these techniques to create your own music.
We'll go back and forth from beginning/intermediate to more advanced material and in the process, we'll look at fingering both down and up the neck (it's tricky up there!) and look at tunes in the keys of G, C, D and A (mixolydian). We'll hit the ground running and we have a lot of ground to cover, so download the nine tabs we'll be discussing *now* over at Peghead Nation by following the link.
This workshop is free but your donations are gratefully accepted. There's a tip jar at the PN page and you can also head over to my homepage (link in comments). 100% of donations go to me and my family and in turn I'm donating 25% of all proceeds to the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley. Tell your friends, download those tabs, grab your banjo and join me at noon Mountain Time. https://pegheadnation.com/…/join-bill-evans-facebook-live-…/
