This news item just left me speechless. I mean, what the...

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lanc...-52219080

These two persons were able to dress themselves, leave the house, walk to the store and find their way round the food aisles. But I honestly have absolutely no concept of why anyone (let alone an adult) would do what they did next? Are there psychologists among our members who can explain the pathology?

Stupidity is not sufficient description.

Expletives UNdeleted are not sufficient description, either.

This looks like biological warfare, done cheap.

It is not stupidity, it is corrupt, evil nature on display. It is happening all over, and some have rightly been arrested for it. Others have rightly received a smack-down. I get a new sickening example almost everyday in my facebook feed, spitting on produce, licking shopping cart handles, etc.

I am in favor of employing the services of a Singapore caning master.

We are all agreed how deeply wrong these idiots behaviour is.

But, assuming these two are not mentally ill, and they don't appear drunk, anyone have any clue what on earth causes an adult to do this? The fact they were a duo and presumably egged each other on in a joint idiocy makes it even weirder.

That's a genuine question in light of my own total perplexity on reading this news item.

Isn't just the thrill of personal efficacy that drives behavior like this? Isn't it just a variation on boom cars or rolling coal or publicly displaying vulgarities on their person or using racist language? It seems to me like they were chafing under social restrictions and retaliated with the little personal power that they have. Their instinct to do so seems similar to the instincts of anyone who complains about PC culture etc. Except in the case of the anti-PC person, they feel that it is more important to display their power than to acknowledge the feelings of others. What these people decided was that exhibiting their own personal power was more important than the actual health of others.

Some people are just beyond nasty. A gal in Hamilton Ontario pretended that she had tested positive to get off work for the night at a McDonalds, course then they had to close the store etc etc..... ..I can't imagine that people can be this stupid and horrible but they are :(

Oh, but now they are all over the media all over the world. Mission accomplished.

What good is a bad deed if it isn't rewarded with "fame"?

But that's what perplexes me Paul. We see that 'motivation' elsewhere in our desperate, alienated me, me, me, 'celebrity culture'. Sad, shallow, misguided; call it what you will but the attention-seeking 'purpose' there is evident.

But I seriously doubt these two people caught on camera set out to gain attention. It appears that if they thought at all, they figured their action would be unseen?

Sickening, yes. But also bewildering as to 'why?'.

Maybe this is the 'why?'

In cases like this should continued internet access be dependent on passing a simple understanding of cause-and-effect test? devil

I don't see it as weird,  it would be weird if it didn't happen.    it's just a twist on pretty normal antisocial behavior, that suits the current situation.     Here in NZ... we've had our share of spitting, and deliberate sneezing and coughing over people....sometimes even put up on social media.....It's pretty normal to have an element in every society that feel separate from the tribal empathy....outcasts...outlaws if you like... The jails are full of them.

Sure, sadly antisocial behaviour is one of our realities. But there is usually a 'motive' for that behaviour however spurious.

The people who spit at police claiming they have Covid 19 are responding aggressively to a confrontation. Albeit stupidly and irresponsibly.

There was no prior or present confrontation in that store. And yet they acted in tandem in what we can only assume was a prearranged antisocial collusion. That's the weird part.

Mike ..

You are so close to yer answer..

But like many folks..

You just can not beleave the depreavity..or evilness of some..

As you logicly note this was not done for fame..

But possibly rather...to spread the virus...covertly...?

Hence Bio warfare.. n Terrorisum...

In the Alberta case, the suspect’s name was not released in order to prevent “vigilante” reactions. I find that curious, given that the newspaper describes it as a prank.

In the UK case, I find it interesting that two gentlemen are involved. Seems unusual for an anti-social prank, wouldn’t you say?

I can't fathom sociopaths. We had three of them next door to us in Toronto. The tenants that preceded them, three gay guys, were the best that had lived there, just really good neighbours. These others were a nightmare, three deaf guys who moved in with ten (not kidding nor exaggerating) pit bulls. These guys partied all night, raced their crappy car around the neighbourhood, and ignored (or swore at) people who requested they stop. It was four months of stress, with calls to the Police, Noise Control, and Animal Control. These guys just didn't care. They'd trashed that house by the time they left.

Some people take pleasure in being ornery, I suppose. "Rebels" without a cause and without a care ... or thought. Not terrorists in the usual sense, Al, at least not political. Maybe mayhem, destructive impulses, troublemakers, but I doubt these guys have the brains to make a political statement (if they had, they'd have left a "manifesto" by now).

Yeah, Mike, the publicity thing is problematic and puzzling, but wouldn't they at least want to see the results of their efforts, to find out if there'd been any damage done? It's a form of arson, I think, and I doubt that satisfaction is gained if they never hear of anything happening. Self-validation. Maybe at a much lower grade. The tagger who sprays his initials on a building at least sees the result and can return anonymously to check it out. There must be some form of "evaluation" of their actions.

Or maybe they're just stupid.
