I have a neck blank here that is still 100% square. I have been unable to cut it out because I need to use a friend's bandsaw, and he is under quarantine. I can, however, make rims. I have completely finished a sugar maple block rim woodie in the style of a Tony Pass Almost Flathead, and I have a second red maple block rim in the making that will be able to fit a flathead tone ring. However, I will not be putting a metal ring on that rim. I will be making wooden tone rings to slip in place of it. These wooden rings will also be in the style of an Almost Flathead. One of them will be made from apple wood, one from sycamore wood, and another from cherry wood. I may even get gutsy enough to try making one from sassafras wood. Not only will it give me something to do, but it will also let me test different woods as a top layer of a block rim. Doing it this way will almost make the only variant the tone ring. My only problem is I don't have a neck to try them on. But oh well. If I can finish that job, then I can put them on a shelf and wait till this quarantine is over.
