I need an old-time pot for my StewMac. There's a rim cut for flathead tone ring
"top cut for Gibson-style flathead tone ring" in the market place. And I also see flathead tone rings on ebay. My question is how standardized are flathead tone rings. If I bought the rim from one merchant and the tone ring from another could I be reasonably confident that they would be compatible? Robert
Just to be clear this is how the rim is described: "top cut for Gibson-style flathead tone ring" and it is 3/4" thick
I believe you have to check out "skirt length" to see how the rim is cut. Long skirt or short skirt. I don't know any more about it than that.
Thanks. There seem to be 2 critical dimensions, and that would seem to be one of them. Glad to know what it's called. Robert
As mentioned above, most fall into the short or long regarding skirt length. The inside ID varies from ring to ring by several thousandths of an inch. It would be rare to buy a separate ring and rim and get the exact fit. But, if too tight, the rim can be shaved down and if too loose, wood can be added and turned back down if you have the skills or a friend that does.
