So back in September I ordered a hide head from John Balch. When it came in, I said something like, "I'll get to that tomorrow," and what do you know, tomorrow finally got here yesterday, and I love the sound so far.
So I got the new head on, and John's instruction video says that the tension hoop will ride a little high initially, and that's fine. however, since the Goodtime tension hoop doesn't have a neck notch, I'm getting string buzzing once I get up to about the 8th fret. I'm using the original bridge, and I'm pretty sure that I got the neck back on as high as it would go.
How long should I expect it to take for the head to stretch enough for me to tighten the top down enough for the buzzing to go away?
Or did I miss something obvious?
Thanks for your help and advice.

I'd first check with John to be sure he made the head with enough crown for a Goodtime. He's great to work with. How much too high is it? If it's really tensioned up fully now, it will take several days for much more stretch. After that it's pretty stable. You may also want to try dampening it a little and tightening a little more, but I'd wait to hear from John.
Good advice, Parker. I'll do that.
