I have recently purchased a Gold Tone 4 string cello banjo, and would like to down tune it to GDAE. Can anyone recommend suitable string gauges please.
Your cello banjo scale length is only 2 inches longer than a tenor banjo. Try a packaged set of medium or light Irish tenor strings intended for GDAE. If you really want to get anal about the string tensions, use this website:
Thanks Bobby, I wasn’t aware of that website. I didn’t explain myself very well on my original post. The idea of the game was to take the tuning down from the standard cello CGDA, to a full octave below the tenor banjo. All sorted now.
