Statistically, one should know three to four folks born on February 29th. To the best of my knowledge, the only one I know is Dieter Zander. Actually, I don't know Dieter Zander all that well, either. We attended the same high school. I know he's blonde, he is considered to be "nice," he played soccer, and his name is fun to say. Dieter Zander, Dieter Zander, Dieter Zander. :-) And I know he's world famous! I know this because, years ago, I walk into a youth hostile somewhere in the south end of the south island of New Zealand, and a Kiwi says to me, "Yank, uh? Any chance you know Dieter Zander?" I mean, if folks in New Zealand know him, (sans the internet,) he must be famous, right?

Know any Leap Day babies? Got any "small world" stories?

How do you get to 3 or 4 ? Only one in about 1800 days is a Feb 29th. You'd have to know an awful lot of people for 3 or 4 of them to be born on Feb 29th.

The other end of the spectrum is my birthday, October 9th. I wondered why I knew so many people with the same birthday. Celebs like John Lennon but also people who I actually know. I've come across about a dozen all told. I twigged that 9 months and 9 days, taking us back to New Years Eve, is the average human gestation.
And on weird coincidental meetings. I once walked out to the pool at a hotel in Los Gatos Ca. wearing a Dwight Diller tee shirt. A guy said "Hey - A Dwight Diller tee shirt". I assumed he was a banjo player. Turned out he went to high school with Dwight and was amazed to see somebody he'd known as a kid and hadn't seen since on a strange Englishman's shirt.

I'm no statistician, but I figure there are 4 Oct. 9s for every Feb. 29.   A dozen divided by 4 = 3.  That's close enuff for me.

P.S. Andrew, do you mean a strange Englishman's shirt, or an Englishman's strange shirt?  cheeky

I'm also October 9th, along with John Lennon. Must be something pretty magical about the night nine months before October 9.

That would be January 9th, which happens to be my Hubby's birthday. As glorious as he happens to be, more likely an extention of January 8th, which happens to be Elvis's birthday. Love live Rock and Rock! :-)

As I said. Usual human gestation is a bit longer than 9 months. So we both know how our parents celebrated New Year.
