Very sad day. My little Chiweenie had been going downhill for quite a while and today it was very evident that he probably wasn't going to make it much longer so..... I had him put down. Stayed with him until the sedation took effect and left. Just couldn't watch him die. That is one of the toughest, most unhappy things you have to do as a dog owner. At least I know he's no longer in pain, although I seem to be.

The house seems so quiet without my little barking dog around.

Sorry Sherry, I know it hurts, been there done that. You were brave to let him go for his sake, at the cost of your own.

I can't imagine a Heaven that would not have our loved pets too.

Once you've given yourself time to grieve, maybe a look at a local animal shelter would find you someone to take home.

Sadness shared is more easily borne.
Not EASILY, just MORE easily.

I've resisted for many years the impulse to bring a pet into my home, but I realize my own reluctance to love it unconditionally in the same way it will love me. That is my failure and loss. But Sherry, please know just how much you loved that little pooch and how much he/she was grateful for the love you gave.

Very sad news Sherry, it's very sad to lose a beloved pet and friend. They are truly part of the family and a great loss when they go. Condolences.

My kind thoughts go out to you. I understand your pain as I’ve been in that situation and it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

Not prolonging suffering is an act of love. But it won’t feel like it right now.

Take care of yourself.

I'm so sorry to hear the sad news.

I could hardly bear it when my half-German-shepherd, half-Golden-Retriever, ran out to the road one morning and got hit by a pickup truck. That was 12 years ago.

Still hurts, because it was my fault for letting my dog off the leash when I shouldn't have, and both of us (my brother John and I) failed to correct the foolish tendency of our dog, to chase after cars or anything fast!

Sorry for your loss, Sherry. When we lose a dog we always replace him/her with a rescue dog. It's just the natural thing for us to do. Hope your day is better.

My sympathies, Sherry. That’s always a hard thing to go through. I have cats, and I’ve been through that too many times. Now I have older cats, one with (no kidding) lupus. What I wonder is if I get a kitten or young cat, will it outlive me—and how will I provide for that.

Saddened at the news of your loss. You've been through a lot lately - my condolences.

We had our only dog put down last June, and there's still an empty space that moves around the house. Shelby the cat seems to have picked up some of Angus's mannerisms, as if a part of him is still here.

Losing any pet is hard, but dogs are special. They are the best example of unconditional love. Your post brings back the memories of all the dogs I've had to let go, but with all of that also are the memories of how they made my life better. We're all with you on this.

Words fail. It makes me weep for my own departed ones.  Moose, Chippy, Katie, Gracie, Jenny, and Bucker.

But Buddy is still here!  And it's time for a walk!

The pain of putting a pet down and its loss is something most of us share, and so may it be some comfort to you that we share in the pain of your loss. I can only offer that you think of the joy your had in your dog and that the dog had with you. You did do the right thing for your pet. Brad
