I was supposed to play a gig with my band tomorrow (im the lead singer)but came down with a flu like virus and told them they should find someone to fill in for me. So they did. No problem there. So now im feeling better to the point where i can do the gig . You all think i should just keep my mouth shut and let the replacement do the gig since he was good enuf to step up? its not a major gig . im thinking i should just bite the bullet and say nothing. what would you do?

I'd take the day off & run some disinfectant(whisky) over my vocal cords & work on some of my old favorites!

I would let the sub do the gig. You could let them know you’re doing better but think it’s best to sit this one out.

I think you should get up there with your cowbell and sing some backup, but keep the replacement for the gig as agreed.

If I were you, I would explain the situation to your band mates and let them decide.

We used to have these guys show up at the office that just got over the flu. And I would end up sending them home about halfway through the day. For two reasons, 1 I didn't want the flu nor did I want the rest of the crew to get the flu? And two 2, they didn't have the mask.

If there was a third reason it was because they weren't quite well enough to put in a good day of work, which indicated to me that they needed the rest.

This is absolutely what I would do.  And for multiple reasons.  The backup singer prepared, you don't know you are no longer contagious, you don't know what damage you could do to your vocal cords even though you feel better.  Letting the backup play the gig and getting more rest for yourself is the right thing to do for everyone concerned.

Stay home! I cannot believe these responses. The flu is dangerous and even flu-like illnesses are highly contagious. No one wants your disease. Masks don’t work very well and anything you touch can spread the disease.

A couple of years ago I got a pm from one of our members. He got a call from a very prominent performer to "fill in" at an event. He practiced all the tunes and even invited his parents to attend. When he showed up he was treated like he did not exist. He was devastated. For sure, give someone else a chance.

Give the replacement a "shot". If you don't, that person may become so angry they won't sing with the band ever again. I also think it is the right thing to do.

I know of an instance where a relatively new banjo player was excluded from a jam. He used anger as motivation to improve. He became a really good banjo player but would never again play with anybody from that jam.

Give him a chance to play hardball with the big kids.
If your band is any good, it'll look nice on his rezzooomay!

"And, when called on, was able to fill in for banjo great GARY GATES!"

It ain't going to hurt you, in the long run.
And if you're still the LEAST bit contagious...... eeewwww!

Oh, wait! The gig is OVER.

Who did what??
