Hi I just ordered a (thornburg) gourd banjo. I'm looking forward to getting some bnj picking again. In fact, I used to play and sing and I'm looking forward to hollerin again ;-)

I've even begun to pluck guitar again. Laid off for 8 or 9 years - sore hands.. I have to take it real easy.

I imagine quite a few folks are into gourd banjos.

Congrats. I don't own one but I've enjoyed playing a couple and I like them a lot. Big fan of Bob Thornburg too, a unique player. His contributions to "Banjo Gathering" are amazing.

I've seen big ones and little ones. I like em all. The one I ordered has 11 inch gourd.

I love playing percussively (I was a drummer) and enjoy this style -https://youtu.be/l3xYF86zZRA

Ah rats, they want to sell it without any warranty. It already had a crack repair, so I passed. Back to looking for another.

I'd like to make one, but dont know if time will permit.

Catt Elderly advertised a used Thornberg "as is" this morning. Has a crack repair on the neck, I think at the 5th string peg.

Thank you. Yes that's the one I passed on. Likely the repair is fine, but I just usually pass on items like that unless I can look look at them or have knowledge of their histories, etc.

Besides, I'd really like a menzies. :)

If you picked up a Menzies, you'll be VERY happy... love mine that Jeff made for me a couple years ago out of blue mahoe... just gets better and better sounding...

Very cool. I want to get one of those. No it wasn't a menzies I picked up, nor even a banjo (harp).

RG that's a badass gourd. I've got a Menzies Grain Measure, great instrument.

Thanks Bill, Jeff makes great banjos (as you know with your grain measure). The blue mahoe is just a beautiful wood, and the sound out of this banjo is unreal, a low growl and sustain that you can only get with a well made gourd.  I highly recommend Jeff's banjos, and he's a great guy to boot...

Thanks!  I am really happy with the way it came out, Jeff knocked it out of the park!

I dig the funky styling on that - as a former bass player I'm used to a big ol scroll atop :)
