Just saw on eBay - vegavox special deluxe [tenor], never seen one before that seller reckons its a one of a kind built in the 30s.
Absolutely stunning looking banjo for sure but the £25k asking price - certainly nowhere near 'pre-war mastertone' territory but is this the holy grail of vega tenors?
[Excuse my ignorance on the subject of tenors, i am a bluegrass picker].
“Seller recons...” Yikes. Probably late ‘20s. Looks nice but £ 25K? Only if someone really, really, really likes it.
These aren’t the HG Vegavoxes although these are the kind that appeal to pre-30s Vegaholics like me.
Rare? Sure. One of a kind? No. Extremely valuable? Only if someone is willing to pay the Dough for the Do-Re-Mi.
I could see a USA vintage dealer asking $10–12K and praying that someone offers $7,000 and hoping it doesn’t stay on the wall too long.
