Hello Banjo Buddies,
Need help with a tuning i'm not familiar with. If anyone who is can help me on this i would be most grateful. Song is Oh Death Doc Boggs someone posted online a while back. Notes listed below. I don't know how to tune to this. Will this tuning break strings, lol. Thanks in advance.
This tuning is below standard tuning, so strings won't break. You can start with gDGBD or with gCGBD and tune your strings down to the desired notes.
Thanks for your help, i don't have a tuner so i don't know when each string would be at the desire notes...i can't find a mp3 tuning anywhere on line to be able to hear the tuning so any other suggestions in achieving this task?
So how do you get in tune now? I recommend purchasing a tuner if you are going to fool around with the great variety of banjo tunes.
Otherwise: if you start with gCGBD:
1 C# is a half step down from D (1 fret)
2 G# is 1 and a half steps down from B. (3 frets)
3. E is 1 and a half steps down from G (3 frets)
4. B is 1 & a half steps down from D (3 frets)
5. f is 1 step down from g (2 frets)
This isn't very elegant but you can chart this out and based on your current tuning. Someone else may have a better idea.
Thanks this may work for me using my ear. I plan on getting a tuner soon. Open for easier suggestion anyone?
Sorry for a typo above, but you would be starting from standard tuning which is gDGBD.
I noticed that, thanks for telling me
You apparently have access to the internet. Does your computer have speakers? Use an online tuner to tune your banjo to proper pitch.
thank you very much for the link.
