This listing popped up on the local craigslist this morning.
I have no pony in this race, do not know the seller, and do not know if this is all original or a frankenbanjo. But at this price, it seems worth mentioning for those into B&D banjos.
I looked and don't see this in BHO classifieds.
If someone here buys it, or knows about this model -- or if you're the seller -- please add to this thread, I'm curious more than anything.
It’s a special... no tone ring.... I wouldn’t bother with it.
I’m from Clemson originally, by the way.
This may not be a Silver Bell, but it's still a very good banjo for someone who isn't a boorish snob.
It appears to have an Oetinger tailpiece, and if that's genuine, is worth some bucks.
Cool, thanks for the info. I am personally not interested in a banjo like this because I know zip about them, but it seemed a reasonable price, I guess.
I also noticed the tailpiece and if it is an Oettinger (I AM familiar with those) in good condition, it seems the tailpiece is worth a good chunk of the asking price.
Yes, it is a Special, the lower end of the 1930's Bacon's, when the fancy Silverbell models ruled the roost! However, it is still a good banjo, and they DO have Tonerings! They have a 1/4" round rod tonering, I own two of them, and in that picture it is clearly visible. The do not have the nickle plated brass skirt that Peerless's had(over their 5/16" round rods), but they do have the round rod tone ring. They are decent, and that price is fair. Plus, it looks to be in nice shape.
